Genetics

It is the study of how the living being receives common characteristics from the previous generations. For example facial features, height, skin color are inherited through genes from the parents to their children. Genetics tries to explain which characteristics are inherited and how they are passed from one generation to another.

Most of the cells of our body have 23 pairs of chromosomes that is total 46 chromosomes. On each of the chromosomes are present various genes. These genes are carrying the genetic information. Each sperm and egg has 23 chromosomes. During fertilization when egg and sperm unite the two sets of chromosomes come together. In this way one half of genes come from mother and one half come from father.

Any change in the gene is termed as mutation
